Overview
TTenahead Lodge & Spa is located in the Eastern Cape 33 kilometres from Rhodes, situated in the Drakensberg at the southern-most tip of Lesotho and at 2500 metres about sea level, Tenahead Lodge & Spa boasts with the title “Highest Mountain Lodge in South Africa”.
The name Tenahead is derived from the neighbouring Tinahead Mountain.
After a trip to South Africa exploring the Eastern Cape and Lesotho in 2002, Wim Jansen and his wife, Matty, from the Netherlands, were inspired to create a reserve with a small lodge in a pristine and remote mountain area. At the end of that same year, the place was chosen and land was acquired - this marked the beginnings of Tenahead.
The Lodge was designed by Pretoria Architect, Paul Boshoff.
As much emphasis was placed on ensuring that the Lodge blend in with the natural surroundings, the buildings were constructed from natural stone that had been sourced on-site. Skilled stone masons from Lesotho were commissioned to undertake the building work, and as such, the Lodge is an excellent example of centuries old Basotho-style traditional workmanship.
Tenahead opened its doors to the public in 2006.
