SSouth Africa is currently on adjusted alert level 1 and the economic impact of these restrictions since 2020, has posed the greatest threat to our economic recovery, especially within our tourism sector.
The third and fourth waves we experienced had hit the country really bad and devastated our tourism industry. And yet, despite all of this, there are still tourism products and businesses that have remained open. Due to these challenges, South African Tourism has been unable to implement an annual program, Lilizela Tourism Awards, and instead opted to find different initiatives to help and support tourism businesses during this difficult time in our country.
South African Tourism have since embarked on a tactical initiative to honour, acknowledge and collect the stories of tourism products that have been innovative within their businesses and found creative ways to keep their doors open and/or retain their employees. We know and understand that these are extremely difficult times that we are faced with and have no choice but to live with this pandemic and this new norm. Our intention with this initiative is to honour these heroes that have been able to keep their businesses open, share their stories, salute them for their courage and thank them for their resilience. To support these tourism businesses, we will also profile them within the media, by including the survival stories with the respective image/s including any additional information or rates to help these businesses continue to stay afloat, as we continue to build our country.
If you are a surviving tourism business, we are asking you to please participate and tell us your story of how you have managed to survive in these devastatingly hard times. Please click on the link below and follow the instructions to submit your story.
