Overview
TThe Karoo Heartland in the Eastern Cape is renowned for its rugged panoramic mountain ranges, wide open plains, unpretentious hospitality, quaint towns, and much desired peace and tranquillity. Against this magical backdrop, only 130km from Port Elizabeth, you will find Koffylaagte Game Lodge. Our game farm and lodge offer both full board accommodation in our stunning safari style thatched tents and lodge as well as self-catered or family accommodation in our traditional 1800s farmhouse. Retaining much of the character, simplicity, history and culture of the days when the early settler traders used this spot as a resting place on their travels between the coast and the interior, Koffylaagte transports you from the modern world to a simpler, more peaceful time. Sit back and relax whilst taking in the uninterrupted vistas of the Karoo. Book a game drive, guided walk, or even a horseback trail through our game reserve then allow the cares of the world to pass you by as you take a dip in our pool or unwind in our sauna. If you’re feeling adventurous, bring your own mountain bike and attempt our mountain pass! The 13 bedroomed accommodation capacity is spread between 5 luxuriously appointed en-suite safari tents, main lodge consisting of 3 upmarket lodge rooms, 1 x two-bedroomed and 1 x 1 bedroom self-catering farmhouse units plus a further 1 x 2 bedroomed Bush Cottage, making our maximum sharing capacity 30 people. Safari Tents: Overlooking the breathtaking Nyala Valley, you will find the Nyala Valley Safari Tents. These five elegantly furnished units, with their private wooden decks, offer unsurpassed game viewing, tranquility and privacy, yet are situated a mere 150m from the main lodge dwellings.  These units are perfect for couples wishing to experience the serenity and beauty of the African bush, whilst experiencing absolute comfort and luxury. Main Lodge: The Main Lodge consists of three luxury, en-suite bedrooms that overlook the gardens and rock-pool and the original farmhouse homestead dating back to the1800`s, with kitchens equipped with a refrigerator, microwave oven and stove and also provide cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery. These units are perfect for families or couples wishing to have a some privacy. Bush Camp: Our eco friendly bush cottage can sleep up to 8 people. Be one with nature in our cute, rustic 2 bed 2 bathroom cottage in the bush. Perfect for family getaways, school/youth camps, and bachelor bashes. For a true rustic, bush experience. A log cabin, set in its own quiet valley at the base of our mountain, the bush cottage sleeps up to 8 people in 2 rooms, with 2 shower rooms (powered by gas-fired geysers), a large kitchen/living area with stonefire/braai-place, gas fridge and stove, as well as solar-powered lighting. Perfect for romantic getaways, fishing weekends (Darlington Dam is less than 30minutes away), bachelors weekends and family breaks. Further facilities include the Hunters Lodge and Heron lounge with satellite TV, a fully licensed bar, indoor braai as well as a games room with pool table and a variety of board games. The game reserve lies at the entrance to the Karoo mountain belt, located between Baviaanskloof and the Addo Elephant Park. It is home to an abundance of wildlife and is also embedded in extremely rich history. Artefacts are still found dating back centuries, like pennies from 1917 and bicycle license plates to name only 2 of many. We have won the 2015 Lilizela Tourism award for best wildlife encounters having been nominated 3 consecutive years in both this and further categories. There is no other place on earth whereby horses graze with rhino while the domestic cat watches on a few centimetres from them intermingled with baby lambs and chickens and a porcupine that comes to eat the dogs food from inside the manager's homestead while the latest female ostrich comes to eat out of the owners plate while he enjoys his lunch outside. The fauna, flora and unique vegetation such as the Queen of the day, the shepherd's tree and plum tree as well as the largest, oldest endangered elephant foot tree provide for a botanical paradise! These are just a few of the aspects that make Koffylaagte the magical gem that it is! With the most recent of these reasons being a newly discovered cave and new born rhino calf!
