With WOWZULU as your trusted guide, get off the beaten track to have the experience of a lifetime in the heart of rural KwaZulu-Natal. Connect with friendly communities in stunning locations. Have an adventure, make new friends and know that the local community, economy and environment will benefit from your travels. WOWZULU is a leading South African sustainable tourism operator.

Bongiwe Mlangeni, Manager of WOWZULU Tourism and Craft, said the marketplaces hosted by local, previously unemployed youths, combined craft sales with local food tastings, storytelling, rural homestays and the opportunity for tourists to learn craft techniques. She said this kind of sustainable tourism was good for the environment, society and economy.

DDeputy Minister of Tourism Elizabeth Thabethe said the initiative provided employment opportunities for the youth and economic benefits for tourism enterprises. According to Thabethe, “WOWZULU tourism initiative brought key South African tourism stakeholders into a meaningful partnership to research, strengthen and document an applicable, best practice sustainable model that we are proud to be associated with as the national department of tourism. Storytelling by local tour guides enriches the cultural experience of tourists and exposes WOWZULU as a tourist destination, assessed against South African community tourist guidelines and Global Sustainable Tourism Council criteria for destinations.”
