TThanda Safari is a 14,000 hectare Big Five private game reserve in the northern Zululand area of South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province. The reserve is steeped in Zulu history with the Mduna Royal Reserve being part of the greater Thanda Safari Reserve, linking conservation and the Zulu culture.

Thanda Safari offer three different accommodation types – Thanda Safari Lodge, Thanda Tented Camp and Villa iZulu. Guests here will enjoy thrilling twice-daily game drives which are conducted by expert game rangers who are passionate about wildlife and the African bush.

TThe reserve has recently introduced a package for guests who are not only interested in a world-class safari, but who are also passionate about conservation and making a difference. The Collars for Conservation Safari is a five-night package where guests are transported by helicopter from Durban’s King Shaka Airport for an unforgettable safari experience for six guests.

Each booking facilitates the purchase of a GPS collar and guests will go “behind-the-scenes” by joining the Wildlife Conservation team experience first hand while they dart and sedate the animal (lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah or hyena) in order to place the tracking collar on the animal. This enables the wildlife conservation team to more effectively monitor and protect the animal as well as gather much needed data for research.

GGuests will also be able to shadow the wildlife conservation team as they do their daily jobs and help protect and conserve some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife. Guests will gain in-depth knowledge and awareness of behavioural and feeding patters, ecology and more.
