SSA Tourism 2019 Performance Report Released

South Africa’s tourism performance report for 2019 has been released.

The report compiled by South African Tourism’s (SA Tourism) Strategic, Insights and Analytics (SIA) team focuses on various performance elements on the international and domestic front.

These are:

  • Total Arrivals/Trips
  • Spend
  • Length of Stay
  • Bed nights
  • Geographic Spread

On the domestic front, there were significant increases in total trips, spend, bed nights and geographic spend, signalling an exceptional 2019 performance.

“It’s encouraging to see the amount of travel domestically with total trips up by 61,3% when compared to 2018,” commented SA Tourism CEO, Sisa Ntshona.

South Africa’s international performance did not fare too well with declining figures across all the measured elements.

“We will continue to focus our attention to improve international arrivals and although the COVID-19 pandemic has grounded all international travel for the moment, we will work tirelessly to improve on our performance,” said Ntshona.

The tourism performance report is also packed with fascinating insights and analysis for travel companies and organizations to utilize in their COVID-19 recovery strategies.

These insights were derived from the departure and domestic survey’s conducted throughout the year.
