SSouth African Tourism (SA Tourism) management have been in touch with their Sun International counterparts at the Sun City resort.

This follows yesterday’s freak hail storm in the North West Province that saw damage to the property forcing guests to abandon their rooms due to flooding.

The Sun City Resort is one of South Africa’s most iconic tourist destinations with 1,4 million people – local and international – visiting the resort annually.

“Following our discussion with Sun City Resort Management, they have informed us that they have the situation under control and are working around the clock to assess and repair the damage caused by the hail storm,” explained Sisa Ntshona, CEO of SA Tourism.

“Sun City is a favourite for many local and international visitors and with the assurance from management that things will return back to normal, we would still encourage visitors to make Sun City a part of their itinerary.”

The resort’s emergency plans kicked in yesterday following the destruction caused by the hail storm.

Affected guests were relocated to alternative accommodation establishments while some decided to go back home.

“Unforeseen incidents such as this test the fortitude of South Africa's hospitality professionals,” said Darryl Erasmus, SA Tourism’s Chief Quality Assurance Officer.

“As a long standing graded members of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, we are confident that the team of professionals at one of South Africa’s world famous resorts, will continue to deliver world class service to its patrons as they recover from this unfortunate incident."

The resort has been re-opened and hotel guests and day visitors are able to make use of the Valley of Waves and Sun Central.

Resort Management has made a request to all guests with upcoming bookings at the resort’s Soho and Cabanas hotels to check with the hotel’s reservation desk before travelling to Sun City through the following contact numbers: +27 14 557 5110 or +27 14 557 1580
