SSA Tourism sees potential growth from Qatar

South African Tourism (SA Tourism) met with key industry players in Qatar last week as part of its engagement strategy in promoting South Africa as tourism destination of choice to Qatari citizens and residents.

The Department of Home Affairs recently announced that seven countries will have visa’s waived and this included Qatar.

In collaboration with Qatar Airways and Brand South Africa, trade partners were educated via sales visits and training sessions.

Over 50 front-line sales staff and travel consultants received training in Doha, to better understand the tourism offerings in South Africa.

“The engagement sessions in Doha were extremely valuable and gave us a great opportunity to market South Africa to a growing market,” commented Neliswa Nkani, SA Tourism’s Hub Head for the MEISEA (Middle East, India & South East Asia) region.

“We look forward to working closer with all our partners in Qatar so that we can increase arrivals to South Africa and work towards the 2030 goal of achieving 21 million international visitors to or country.”

In further good news for the South African tourism industry, Qatar Airways have announced an additional of two flights to South Africa adding to their Johannesburg and Cape Town routes.

This takes the total from 19 weekly flights from Doha to South Africa to 21.
