Overview
OOnce an ancient African Kingdom that welcomed traders from Asia and Arabia, the Mapungubwe UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned the world over for its ancient archaeological treasures. The Mapungubwe National Park is one of the gems of the region – a wild stretch of pristine bushveld known for its incredible wildlife and magnificent baobab trees. Delegates will be fascinated to know that on Mapungubwe Hill, human skeleton remains were unearthed by archaeologists. They found beads, ivory, animal bones and other artefacts beside these remains, and it’s believed burials were held on the hill for royal subjects. After learning about the history of the Mapungubwe National Park, a visit to the Limpopo River and Sandstone Hills is a must.
