Overview
OOne of South Africa’s foremost malaria-free Big Five reserves, Madikwe is close to the border with Botswana and was once farmland before Operation Phoenix took place in the 1990s – one of the largest wildlife relocation exercises in South Africa’s history. The game reserve is home to numerous varieties of game and wildlife, including wild dogs and the Big Five. There are superb lodges in the park, from five-star luxury lodges to more rustic bush camps, as well as a variety of community-owned and run lodges. There are about 20 Madikwe lodges, and staying in any of them is a prerequisite to visiting Madikwe Game Reserve, since no day visitors are allowed. In Madikwe, you'll be surrounded by the Big Five, beautiful bush landscapes and happy delegates.
