DDubbed the world’s highest bungee bridge, Bloukrans Bridge is one of South Africa’s most loved adventure activities.
Hundreds of people from all over the globe visit Eastern Cape to bungee jump off the Bloukrans River Bridge. If you take the plunge, you will fall 200 meters where you get to take in the stunning views of the Bloukrans River valley. While the majority of them are triumphant, others, clearly petrified by the high jump, ‘chicken out’ at the very last minute.
This once in a lifetime adrenaline high is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Eastern Cape and with good reason. Bloukrans Bungie uses pendulum bungee technology to ensure the smoothest, most comfortable bungee jump possible. The jumpers will wear a full-body harness, combined with an ankle connection.
OOne of the managers for Face Adrenalin, Thomas Ngomana, said they were proud of their safety record. There have been no incidents reported since the first jump in 1997.
“We believe that fear is temporary and that regret is forever. We get people from all over the world who come to jump, all of who love the experience.
“Majority of our clients are international visitors, mainly who come from the United Kingdom, the United States, India, Germany and France. We have around 30 percent of whom are local visitors,” he said.

GGet a rush of pride, adrenalin, accomplishment and energy that you wouldn’t get in another way. You also get pictures, a video and certificate for future bragging rights. If you’re thinking of doing it, here are 8 things you need to know:
Bloukrans Bridge bungee is the highest bridge bungee in the WORLD. Not in SA, not Africa – the world. You will be asked to sign an indemnity form that says you do not hold Face Adrenalin responsible for any injuries you might sustain.
On average, out of every ten people that go up, two don’t jump. Your chances of doing the jump is thus 80%
If you can make it along the bridge walkway, on the way to the actual jump point, then you’ll be fine. This was by far the scariest part.
Just because you’re afraid of heights doesn’t mean that you won’t jump. I get vertigo half way up Lion’s Head, and I felt fine at the Bloukrans jump (216m high)
It helps to take some sort of ante-anxiety something before. At least an hour before. Be that natural, prescription – take something.
The jump costs R750. You don’t get your money back if you chicken out.
There is a little bar & café downstairs, with a view of the bridge. Once you ‘check in’, go sit there. Have a drink with friends and watch and talk about it. This was the MAIN thing that eased my mind. From the view, the whole process looks really quick and like not that far a drop.
When it’s your turn, things move fast. The music is going and you’ll be asked to sit on a stool where they’ll put your ankle straps on, tighten the padding and attach your back-up harness around your shoulders and waist.
