HHave you wanted to see the West Coast, but never really got around to setting this plan in motion? Well, now is the time to round up your friends, fuel up the cars and discover a side of the Cape with such natural beauty, it’s bound to take your breath away!

The journey starts in the quaint town of Darling offering a rich history, good food, cultural walks, and even some entertainment. Darling is also known for its beautiful flower sightings, which will immediately create a gorgeous backdrop to your adventures.

The R27 route between Darling and Paternoster can be done in one day, but we suggest a weekend road trip so you can fully absorb all that the West Coast has to offer. https://www.westcoastway.co.za/darling-evita-se-perron-show-day/

What to do in Darling
Evita se Perron is Pieter Dirk Uys’ brainchild – an old station transformed into a restaurant, exhibition hall, and theatre, where you’re sure to see the art of satire which Pieter Dirk Uys, as Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, is known for.

Prices start at R160 for the show, a light dinner and a glass of wine.

Darling Brew is a craft beer brewery with popularity growing across the entire Western Cape – the concept is known as slow beer because of the slow fermentation process and of course this ties in perfectly with the tranquillity that is this area.

Road trip tip: bookings are highly recommended, so call them on +27 21 286 1099 to book your spot at their new Tasteroom and Brewery on 28 Caledon Street, Darling.

Did You Know?
NNowhere else in South Africa offers the unique diversity that one can experience in as compact a region as the unique West Coast Biodiversity Corridor which stretches from Blaauwberg to St Helena Bay on the R27, and inland to the R45.

GGet a bite to eat at Roosterkoek R27
No matter the taste for adventure, we all need to eat and Roosterkoek R27 is a stop you will not regret. This gem will have you coming back for more and is said to be the best roosterkoek you’ll ever have and with filling options a-dozen, you’ll certainly find something you like.

What is roosterkoek? Well, in line with our South African roots, it is traditional South African bread which is made on a grill/braai and usually eaten with loads of butter or filling/s of your choice.

NNow that you’re licking your lips, let’s add that it’s served with Moerkoffie, basically directly translated to be “very strong coffee” made in an aluminium jug and brewed on the fire.

Interesting artefacts on the walls at Roosterkoek R27, comfy seating and rustic ambience makes for a very relaxing setting while you enjoy the homemade delights. Thank us later.

Visit one of the oldest fishing villages on the West Coast
The West Coast road trip would never be complete without visiting the town of Paternoster. This village has less than 2 000 inhabitants and most people work in and around this village. Paternoster is also known for its crayfish and people from everywhere flock here to get their share of this succulent seafood delight.

The village is small and the white walls and cute restaurants are the perfection of minimalism. On the other hand, it has an air of romance which if you’re traveling with a close friend or partner could be just the place to revive or restore your relationship.
