Gauteng

IIf you possess a spirit of adventure, good driving skills and would like to travel off the beaten track, then renting a 4x4 is the way to go.

Renting a 4x4 in the Gauteng province is easy, affordable and will give you the luxury to travel when, where and how you choose. You can explore Cape Town and its welcoming winelands, into the Kalahari or Karoo deserts, up and away into the magnificent Drakensberg mountains, or along one of the most beautiful, isolated coastlines in the world, the Eastern Cape’s dramatic Wild Coast.

It’s best to plan your journey in advance so that you can decide which vehicle is best for you and then book it to await your arrival. Will you need an off-road 4x4 vehicle, or a fully equipped safari vehicle with camping equipment? Do you want to join a guided 4x4 tour, or do you just need something that you know can take you to places a sedan might not be able to reach?

You can choose to rent a 4x4 from any of the reputable car hire companies, such as Hertz, Avis, Budget or Tempest. If you belong to an organisation affiliated with Automobile International Travel (AIT) you will be able to access benefits in South Africa such as breakdown service, towing and transport to the nearest hospital. The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) is also a fund of knowledge about everything to do with vehicles and roads in South Africa. They can also help with your destination planning.

However, if you are planning a major 4x4 safari, road trip or overland tour, then Bushtrackers, situated in Johannesburg, is the ideal company. They will source vehicles and routes and are experts in the field.

Bon voyage!
