TThe Nedbank Golf Challenge is one of South Africa's premier sporting events, attracting thousands of spectators who gather to watch the world's top-calibre golfers in action.
This golf tournament is played annually in November at Sun City on the world-renowned Gary Player Country Club course. It is one of the longest in the world at 7 000m – with the dramatic backdrop of the Pilanesberg Mountains and indigenous vegetation giving it a real African flair.
This deceptively flat course tests both the stamina and accuracy of players. Designed by South Africa's master golfer, Gary Player, it features many water hazards, cleverly positioned bunkers and pins hidden from sight to compensate for a lack of gradient. Clover-shaped greens are well protected by strategically placed bunkers, swales and mounds. The par-five 9th has a spectacular island green which has been the undoing of many a pro.
When the amateurs are playing, multiple tees ensure that the course is both enjoyable and playable for players of all levels.
Since it was launched more than 38 years ago, the Nedbank Golf Challenge has welcomed some of the biggest names in golf but there's a lot more on offer than just the game. What could be better than relaxing with a cocktail at sunset, accompanied by a fish eagle's cry, after a day of excitement on the greens. And of course a little fun at the gambling tables at Sun City Casino won't hurt before another big day of golf.
Formerly known as the Million Dollar Challenge, this event has, through the years, showcased the world's best golfers, including the likes of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Nick Price, Bernhard Langer, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Retief Goosen, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel, Darren Clark, Thomas Bjorn, Anders Hansen and Kim Kyung-Tae.
The tournament forms part of the Rolex Series on the European Tour and is the penultimate event on the Race to Dubai.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge benefits The Sports Trust, a charity that contributes to the development of all South African sportsmen and women.

How to get here
From Pretoria take the N4 towards Rustenberg, following the signs to Sun City. From Johannesburg take the N1 north and take the Rustenberg turn-off, then follow the Sun City signs.
Best time to visit
This event takes place at the height of summer at the end of November each year.
Things to do
The Pilanesberg Game Reserve and Hartbeespoort Dam are not far away and well worth a visit.
Take a hot air balloon ride at Pilanesberg or a zip slide at Sun City.
