SSouth Africa's Nelson Mandela hailed Londolozi Private Game Reserve as ‘the model of the dream I cherish for the future of nature preservation in our country'. The name says it all - Londolozi is a Zulu word that means ‘protector of all living things'.

The camps in the reserve are situated along the Sand River in the 56 000ha Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which borders the world-famous Kruger National Park. The area is famous for its leopard, along with other magnificent large mammals - lion, elephant, giraffe, rhino, buffalo and zebra.

The success story of Londolozi Game Reserve in Mpumalanga province started in the 1970s when the Varty brothers inherited a hunting lodge on the property. They have developed it into one of the most famous lodges and exclusive wildlife destinations in Africa, known for its brilliant photographic opportunities of the big cats. The camps also offer an array of other activities such as moonlit bush dinners, private bush breakfasts, guided bush walks and stargazing trips.

Besides the four camps – Pioneer, Founder, Varty and Tree – Londolozi is also home to 3 ultra-luxurious private granite suites in an exclusive camp. The suites are built on a spectacular outcrop of granite, on the banks of the perennial Sand River.

Furnished in shades of silver and charcoal, they are sophisticated but allow for untrammelled contact with nature. Huge picture windows open onto a view of the river.

As well as a luxurious bathroom, you can also immerse yourself in a large bath on the river's banks. There is no better way to feel at one with nature and the riverine ecosystem than to be in warm, scented water with the river rush close by and a bird singing from a sheltering ebony tree.

If you're looking for a different kind of immersion, each suite also has its own heated plunge pool.

The New York Times described the suites as ‘arguably the best rooms in the entire Kruger area, with private plunge pools that drop onto the boulders forming the Sand River banks, and close enough to the river to hear it running while lying in bed'.

Splurge out on a safari of a lifetime at Londolozi − one of the top lodges in southern Africa, and enjoy fabulous accommodation and unparalleled game viewing.
