HHealth and wellness in Cape Town is a thriving industry and there are a number of spas and wellness retreats in and around the city.

Cape Town spas are located at most of the city's luxury hotels, and many of these establishments use ingredients derived from local clay, roots, seeds and oils in order to detox and rejuvenate. You can be massaged with Xhosa beads, exfoliated with fynbos extract (indigenous vegetation unique to the Cape), polished with shea butter and detoxified with buchu, a local herb with antiseptic properties.

Many of our Cape Town spas are constantly singled out for excellence in the international arena. The One&Only Resort Spa and the Twelve Apostles Hotel Spa have been singled out by Conde Nast Traveller (UK) and Travel + Leisure Magazine (US). The Twelve Apostles Spa won the 2018 Best Spa Runner Up in the Global Spa and Wellness Awards. The Librisa Spa at The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel also has a superb reputation with international travellers. There are also a few unique spas located in the Cape winelands area including the boutique Majeka House Spa and the Fresh Wellness spa at the Cellars Hohenort. The foodie town of Franschhoek also has a number of notable spa and wellness options, including Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa.

If a good body workout is what you need to give you a complete sense of wellbeing, most Cape hotels feature gyms equipped with the basic training equipment. Or you can apply to a local gym-chain such as Virgin Active or Planet Fitness for a visitor's membership for the duration of your stay.

Heading out of town, the Temenos Retreat Centre in McGregor is a rather special retreat and a good place to switch off the noise of the world, even for a while. The Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat, situated close in Cederberg Mountains makes a fantastic getaway to revive body, mind and spirit.

So wherever you are in and around the Mother City, there's a health and wellness option to suit your needs.
