SSome of South Africa’s finest golf estates are located along the Garden Route, a comfortable drive from Cape Town in Western Cape province

The Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay, 390km east of Cape Town, to Jeffrey’s Bay in Eastern Cape. It hosts a dazzling array of flora, mountain and sea views to take your breath away, and world-class golf resorts. According to respected golfing website Golf in South Africa, there are 13 courses along the Garden Route worth considering, so options are plentiful.

Fancourt in George, 430km from Cape Town, is considered by many to be South Africa’s top golfing estate, with 3 world-class courses (The Links, Montague and Outeniqua), and a range of luxury accommodation to match. The courses at Fancourt have been modelled on some of the finest in Scotland and have received intricate design input from the great Gary Player. All 3 courses are regularly ranked in South Africa’s top 20. Some consider The Links South Africa’s number-one course.

Oubaai Hotel Golf and Spa, a 10-minute drive from George Airport, was the first Ernie Els signature course built in South Africa. The scenery includes the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean – golfers are sometimes even lucky enough to see whales during a round.

While in the area, Kingswood Golf Estate is also definitely worth visiting.

Knysna, less than an hour’s drive from George, is home to Simola Hotel, Country Club and Spa, which boasts a spectacular Jack Nicklaus-designed course. Here you will find 18 of the most beautiful holes you will ever play. Knysna Golf Club, Pezula Resort, Hotel and Spa, Plettenberg Bay Country Club and Goose Valley Golf Club are the other courses worth trying out in this area.

Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort near Mossel Bay is recognised as one of the best golf resorts to be established in recent years. Some fantastic ocean scenery is included in a round at this exclusive 18-hole course, which is less than 5 hours drive from Cape Town.

The other course to consider in this area is the Mossel Bay Golf Club.
