CChampagne Sports Resort is the ideal destination for any golfer looking for a relaxing few days of fresh air and mountain scenery. Here you can enjoy a round, hearing only the soothing sounds of nature.

Some of Africa’s most beautiful sunsets can be seen in this region of KwaZulu-Natal, which is why a late-afternoon game of golf here is hard to beat. The water hazards are gently spread out across the course, not too imposing for less experienced golfers, and the 84 white silica sand bunkers are relatively easy to get out of. There’s usually very little wind to contend with and the greens are mostly smooth, allowing for a stress-free round of golf.

The kikuyu fairways of Champagne Sports Resort are generous in width, but stray shots into the rough may prove difficult to retrieve in sections where foliage is dense.

One of the best things about the course is the space around it. There are no high-rise buildings, no cars zooming past and no reminders of the urban environment you’ve escaped to enjoy a round here.

The Champagne Sports Resort golf course was designed by South African golfing pro Hugh Baiocchi, who claimed more than 20 tournament titles in his career, including the Swiss and Dutch Opens in the 1970s, as well as the Nelson Mandela Invitational, which he won as a senior in 2002.

The World Travel Awards have nominated Champagne Sports Resort as a runner-up in Africa’s leading sports resort category for six consecutive years, which is commendable in a golf-mad country with literally hundreds of top-class courses and resorts.

The Champagne Sports Resort clubhouse, which features an excellent pro-shop and superb views of the course, is a fantastic place to sit back and relax for golfers and non-golfers alike.
