ZZuluWaters Game Reserve in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands offers exclusive, tailor-made outdoor experiences for those who seek a bit of luxury while away from urban surrounds. There are a number of experiences on offer for every season of the year, meaning it’s always a good time to visit.

The activities offered at the 5-star ZuluWaters Game Reserve (formerly known as the Dalton Private Reserve) include game viewing, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, fly fishing and guided walks to view San rock art.

The 7000-acre reserve is near the town of Estcourt, a 2-hour drive from Durban or a 1-hour flight from Johannesburg for those who wish to arrange a charter flight from OR Tambo International Airport.

Accommodation options at ZuluWaters are all top class. In addition to the main lodge, which comes with a private chef, there are 2 self-catering cottages, each with their own unique character. The main lodge has an amazing view across the valley, giving guests the opportunity to watch the wildlife from the comfort of the outside deck.

Wildlife at the reserve includes buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and a wide variety of antelope. While there is a game viewing vehicle for transport around the reserve, the more exciting option is to get amongst the game on horseback. The terrain on the estate ranges from flat grassland to rocky hills, allowing for a challenging ride.

A talented chef serves up a variety of delicious meals throughout the day. Almost every ingredient used to prepare meals at ZuluWaters is produced or grown on the premises.

In the summer months, when the river is high, white water rafting down the Bushman’s River is an unforgettable experience, with an excellent variety of rushing rapids and flat sections of water that allow for more sedate sightseeing. The white water rafting covers some 10km of river. Water levels drop somewhat during the winter months, excellent for trout fishing in the same section of river.
