WWith a string of awards to its name, Royal Malewane in the Greater Kruger National Park is nothing short of a luxury escape. The lodge was voted as South Africa’s Leading Safari Lodge 2018 and has been nominated for: Africa’s Leading Luxury Lodge 2019 in the World Travel Awards.
Here is what guests can expect:
Location: The lodge is located in Thornybush Private Game Reserve, on the western border of the Greater Kruger National Park.
Price: A luxury suite can cost from R25 000 per person, per night. The cost is inclusive of accommodation, all meals, beverages and wines, game drives and laundry. Rates are season-dependent.
Rooms: Royal Malewane has six luxury suites from R25 000 per guest per night, two Royal Suites with two bedrooms from R125 000 per night, and Africa House, a bush villa with six bedrooms from R205 000per night, dependent on the number of guests. The villa accommodates up to 12 guests. Each bedroom at Africa House features a unique colour scheme and offers guests private access to the balcony.
Dining: The lodge offers a unique dining experience. The ever-changing menu, coupled with stunning table settings and scenery, make it a one-of-a-kind experience. Make sure you have a bush dinner experience. Set in the wilderness, the only light that can be seen is from the lanterns and braziers. The team creates anything from a simple salad to a six-course dinner for those who want to dine in privacy. There is also a kosher kitchen on site. Meals are paired with the finest selection of wines. Guests can also indulge in an afternoon high-tea experience.
Royal Malewane safari lodge, Mpumalanga
EExperiences: Their safari experience is among the best in the country. Guests will be able to see the Big 5 in all their glory. There is plenty of wildlife wandering around, so don’t be surprised if you get to see elephants drinking from your plunge pool. The Masiya Bar, named after their first Master Tracker Wilson Masiya, is the perfect place to get in tune with nature and enjoy a drink.
The Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa, voted one of Africa’s best spas, is set in the heart of the African bush. Guests should indulge in their Royal Thaba Massage, an invigorating deep tissue massage incorporating the African “Knobkierrie” stick. The 90-minute massage is meant to revive stressed muscles and relieve tension.
Guests can also take a swim in the heated lap pool, unwind inside the steam room or indulge in one of their hot and cold African baths. Other experiences include birding safaris, stargazing and bush walks to track the Big 5.
What's next? The Farmstead at Royal Malewane opened in May 2019. It is a 12-minute drive south of the existing lodge with views over the canopies of the Greater Kruger National Park.
The Farmstead at Royal Malewane consists of the main lodge area, three suites, The Farmhouse, a double spa treatment room, offering a variety of indulgent treatments, and a gym.
