TThe Highest Pub in Africa is Africa’s best-kept secret. Situated on the border between South Africa and Lesotho, people from far and wide travel to this iconic destination, braving the harshest of weather conditions and dusty roads to get to the pub. Join the welcoming people of this area for a drink – perched at 2874m above sea level, with one foot in South Africa and the other in Lesotho! If you just passing through, they also offer breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Lodge. They only use the freshest local ingredients, ensuring that the local community is supported.

Did You Know?
SSani Pass is situated between KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho and turns into a winter wonderland of snow during cold winter months.

TThe pub is perched 2 874m above sea level, so it would take around two hours to get there from Sani Pass. Make sure you carry along your passport as you will need to go through border control.

SSani Pass is one of South Africa’s most impressive mountain passes. Statistically and in every sense, it out distances, out climbs, and out performs all its competitors, becoming understandably known as South Africa’s most iconic gravel pass in SA. Remember, it is high. Extremely high. So don’t be surprised if there is some bad weather with snowfall happening as late as October.

Tours of the area are available. After a brief introduction of the day’s activities, your guide will start the drive up the mountain. On the way settle in and experience the “African massage”.  An African massage is a reference to the bumpy road and not a spa treatment, as some passengers may think. The views along Sani Pass are breath-taking. The day tour showcases the beauty of Sani Pass and provides views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range.

The tour is informative and gives insight into the fauna and flora of the area. The scenery is unforgettable. Be on the lookout for eland and baboons who camouflage themselves behind trees and plants. Once up the mountain, travellers can soak up the lush mountain views, and, of course, order themselves a drink.
