AA challenging time for our industry; putting South Africans' health and safety first
The global spread of the Coronavirus is evolving rapidly and presenting new challenges and scenarios each hour. Governments, industries, companies and individuals around the world are trying to process the ramifications of travel restrictions, borders being sealed, events being cancelled, schools and businesses being closed. As a nation and an industry, we are putting the safety of our people first as we try to contain the spread of the virus.
The travel restrictions announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa to contain the pandemic will inevitably result in a significant negative impact on our travel industry at all levels in the short to medium term. I know that the restrictions will cause uncertainty, some disappointment and challenges for our industry, but we, as partners in the tourism sector, need to act responsibly to put our people first.
We will emerge from this crisis as a strong resilient player in the global tourism market and will have the opportunity to once again celebrate our country as the home of humanity. The time will come when we can safely “visit each other and welcome the world”.
South African Tourism will keep you updated on developments as they happen on www.southafrica.net or on our social media platforms.
