TThe Event Greening Forum (EGF) hosted an exciting and industry-leading conference at Hackle Brooke Conference Centre, Johannesburg on 21 July 2016.

The Conference covered a wide variety of topics that directly affect the sustainability and development of our meetings and events industry in South Africa.

Sessions delved into what corporate companies are after when it comes to event greening and what they expect from their service provider. Dedicated sessions looked into each and every aspect of the local industry and what needs to be done to improve its sustainability. From catering and transport, through to exhibition stand builds and audiovisual options, leading experts will be on hand to offer respected advice to delegates.

The EGF Chairman Justin Hawes says: “We are proud to have announced the signing of our Memorandum of Understanding with the SANCB. This partnership aims to advance South Africa’s goal of becoming a leader in hosting sustainable business events. We are excited about the partnership with the SANCB as this demonstrates the commitment from government to enable our industry to create a more sustainable future”.

Hawes furthers the conference was an opportunity for event organisers and suppliers within this industry to join as one and action simple, yet effective, means to a more sustainable industry. With the assistance of the SANCB and our other partners’ delegates was able to get information passed on at the EGF Conference which was far more valuable than the small cost of a ticket.

The Key Note Speaker at the conference was Roger Simons, Regional Sustainability Director at MCI and President of the Green Meetings Industry Council (GMIC). As an added bonus, Simons hosted a Sustainable MICE Excellence Masterclass at the SAACI Association Hub on 20 July 2016, the day before the conference. The workshop was aimed at venues and convention bureaus and planners, and covered topics including: key leadership trends in MICE; sustainable food; ISO20121 – What it is and how it works; and how to communicate your sustainability strategy.
