TThe South African Tourism Board is deeply saddened by the passing of Ms. Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and her colleagues across government and Parliament.

Ms. Mnganga-Gcabashe was a powerful voice in tourism leadership — assertive and unwavering in her commitment to accountability. Yet even in moments of tough oversight, she led with immense humanity. She always balanced her demands for excellence with kindness, respect, and a genuine desire to see South African Tourism succeed.

She held the Board and the organisation to the highest standards, often engaging us with incisive questions and sharp reflections. Her diligence in studying our material, her attention to detail, and her constructive feedback were a testament to how seriously she took her role and how deeply she cared about the future of tourism in our country.

We were honoured to have her join us recently at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025, where she continued to demonstrate her passion for the sector and her belief in tourism as a vehicle for inclusive growth and transformation.

May her soul rest in eternal peace. We will carry forward her spirit in our continued efforts to grow and strengthen South African Tourism and the sector at large.

Professor Gregory Davids
