AAnother successful Speed Marketing Session (which is known to be a remarkable, insightful and an incredible experience) was held at the awe-inspiring Cradle of Humankind, Gauteng. It’s unquestionable that for those who attended, the outcomes of this event will forever be a memorable experience.

SATSA-accredited tour operators unearthed so much about humanity’s evolution (which evidence suggests our ancestors emerged approximately seven million years ago in Africa) and enjoyed a comprehensive tour (including the Maropeng & Almost Human tour) in and around this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The two-day workshop encouraged local businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry from the area to showcase their lodges, hotels,  experiences and thrilling adventure establishments – but most importantly strengthen current relationships, build new relations with other industry leaders and encourage future business ventures. From Maropeng Boutique Hotel, and Harties Boat Company to Tshuku Tours and Wild Cave Adventures, owners and employees of these establishments and more took advantage of the networking opportunities and immersed themselves in the Speed Marketing Session with incredible outcomes.

Day one kicked off with tour operators descending on the Maropeng Conference Centre whereby vital information was shared to inform tour operators of what is available in the Cradle’s areas. Askari Game Lodge and Spa, situated on the Plumari Private Reserve in Magaliesberg, was one of the many establishments showcased that offers the perfect romantic getaway and place of leisure.  Thrill-seekers got a taste of what adventures to expect at Ground Zero Adventures.

After an informative session, a site inspection was conducted during the Maropeng & Almost Human tour. As afternoon approached, tour operators made their way to the Lion & Safari Park, a reserve situated on 600 hectares of wilderness near the Cradle of Humankind area. Tour operators got a taste of the bush life while enjoying a night safari drive – this was quite an experience witnessing one of Africa’s Big Five roaming the African plains and hunting at night.

There’s nothing quite like starting your morning with a hot air balloon experience – and that’s exactly what tour operators enjoyed on day two. Bill Harrop's "Original" Balloon Safaris took everyone on an hour-long balloon ride that offered incredible sweeping views of the terrain below, and undoubtedly an indescribable experience.

To end what was an amazing day of networking, the tour operators explored the Woodlands Health Spa, an ideal place for rejuvenation, and the Ngwenya Glass Village to browse impressive local arts and crafts. Tour operators indulged in a delicious lunch held at The Cradle Restaurant. Besides the cuisine, they also experienced a warm welcome and impeccable service from staff.

It’s without a doubt tour operators not only enjoyed the activities on offer during the two-day workshop but left with a higher knowledge and better understanding of what the Cradle of Humankind and surrounding areas offer.
