WWith the countdown to the LIV Golf South Africa underway, and the tournament taking place at Steyn City from 19 to 22 March 2026, South African Tourism is using the global event to highlight South Africa as a destination of world-class golf courses at affordable prices for international golf travellers.

The tournament, which is part of a multi-year commitment, will feature top players like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and South Africa's Stinger Golf Club. It draws a global audience and showcases South Africa's established golf offering to millions of potential visitors. Through publicity of this event, the country's broader travel experiences, including safari and coastal destinations, wine regions, and cultural routes, are also highlighted.

South African Tourism has developed curated golf travel packages available through its official website and promoted across LIV Golf's digital platforms to make it easier for visitors to explore and experience the country. Six tourism exhibitors will be hosted on-site during the event, presenting and selling travel packages directly to the more than 80,000 spectators expected over the four days.

The timing of the tournament ahead of the Easter travel period also creates an opportunity for visitors to extend their stay beyond the event. Travellers attending LIV Golf are invited to spend additional time exploring South Africa’s diverse tourism offerings, including safari destinations, coastal regions, wine areas, and cities.

Golf tourism remains an important segment of the tourism economy, with industry data showing that golf travellers spend around 120% more per day than the average tourist. Beyond visitor spend, the local golf industry delivers meaningful socio-economic benefits and contributes R49 billion to the economy. As global interest in golf travel grows, international tournaments like LIV Golf help connect potential visitors with South Africa's exceptional tourism offering.

"Sports tourism represents an important segment of global travel. Hosting LIV Golf South Africa allows us to showcase Destination South Africa with over 450 world-class golf courses and a wide variety of unforgettable travel experiences ready to be explored," says Dr. Shamilla Chettiar, Acting CEO of South African Tourism.
