SSouth African Tourism extends its heartfelt condolences to the Rovos Rail family following the tragic incident involving a Rovos Rail train near Naute in Namibia yesterday.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of the Rovos Rail driver and the TransNamib pilot who lost their lives in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones, colleagues and the broader Rovos Rail community during this profoundly difficult time.

We acknowledge the swift response by Rovos Rail and relevant authorities in ensuring the safety and care of all passengers.

Rovos Rail represents one of Africa’s most iconic luxury rail experiences and remains an important partner in showcasing the region’s world-class tourism offering. Moments such as these remind us of the dedication of the many professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver exceptional travel experiences.

South African Tourism stands in solidarity with Rovos Rail, its leadership, employees and partners as they navigate this period of mourning and recovery.

The safety and wellbeing of visitors and tourism professionals remain the great tourism sector’s highest priority, and we remain confident in the resilience and care that define our tourism sector.
