The Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, expresses her deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the global hospitality industrialist, Sol Kezner , who passed away on Saturday night, 21 March 2020 at the family home in Cape Town.

“I send our government’s heartfelt condolences to the family of Sol Kerzner, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers during their moment of sorrow,” said Minister Kubayi-Ngubane.

“The passing away of Sol (Solomon) Kerzner could not have come at the worst time for our country and particularly the tourism sector to which he contributed immensely. We will remember him as business pioneer who through his enterprises elevated brand South Africa and made South Africa a destination of choice for tourists. We celebrate his life and legacy as the founder of the Southern Sun Hotel Group and Sun International, as well as the creator of our country’s global hotel icons such as the Beverley Hills in Umhlanga Rocks in the province of KwaZulu-Natal - the first five-star hotel in South Africa - and the world renowned majestic Sun City in the North West province,” she added.

 

Sol Kerzner was not only a South African hotelier but also a global trendsetter with luxury properties in countries the Bahamas, Mexico, the Maldives, Mauritius, Dubai, and recipient of many global awards and recognitions.

Sol Kezner’s contribution to the tourism industry will forever be etched in the memory of the global travel and tourism industry.
