AAirlink will launch a limited scheduled domestic air service from Monday 8th June, with flights on the Johannesburg-Cape Town and Johannesburg-Durban trunk routes, using 98-seat Embraer E190 regional jets.
This follows the implementation of South Africa’s COVID-19 “Level 3” restrictions, which permits a three-phase resumption of domestic flights, based on the following:
- Phase 1, which came into effect this morning and permits flights between
Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
- Phase 2 will see some of the inland airports brought on-stream once the system has
been stress-tested and proven.
- Phase 3 will enable services to the other coastal and inland cities.
No dates have been set for Phases 2 and 3. The entire phase-in is dependent on sufficient capacity and support by Port Health.
“We are ready to start flying our customers again and to play our part in repairing South Africa’s economy by safely and hygienically re-connecting people, businesses and markets. So, our customers can confidently fly with us, we used the down-time to put our pilots and cabin crew through their paces on simulators and training devices, while also maintaining our aircraft fleet in top condition,” explained Airlink CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster.
Airlink will provide services according to the following flight schedule as from 8th June:
TThis initial introductory schedule will be augmented with additional frequencies as from 15th June.

While we are doing everything, we can to provide a safe and bio-secure environment, this system is only effective if travellers, airline and airport personnel practice good personal hygiene and social distancing etiquette, i.e.:
- Wearing face masks or coverings at all times in the airport and onboard our planes
- Frequently sanitising or washing hands with soap and water
- Avoid touching mouths, noses, eyes and other people
- Not travelling if feeling unwell
