SSOUTH AFRICA, Durban – Wednesday, 1st May, 2019: Africa’s Travel Indaba is has arrived and it is gearing up to be the continent’s leading travel trade show and the foremost business platform for continental touristic offerings.

More than 1,000 exhibitors and 1,500 buyers have confirmed their presence at Africa’s Travel Indaba, which takes place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) in Durban between 2nd and 4th May 2019.

Africa’s Travel Indaba has always been a platform for buyers and exhibitors to engage with each other on the challenges and opportunities that affect the advancement of tourism on the continent.

South African Tourism’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Sthembiso Dlamini said: “Africa’s Travel Indaba gathers the world of travel trade on the southern tip of Africa, and it provides Africans the opportunity to showcase to the globe not just our natural wonders and urban delights, but also our humanity and warmth. It is time the world has heard our story.”

This year we will be adding the Green Stand Awards that will surely bring a new dimension to the way exhibitors showcase their products. The awards are presented to those exhibitors with the most sustainable stand.

The Lap of Luxury Pavilion

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa stand at Indaba 2019 is a vital attraction at this year’s INDABA. Here, visitors and buyers at Indaba will experience a visual representation of numerous high-end properties at the Lap of Luxury Pavilion.

The Lap of Lap of Luxury Pavilion is designed to convey the absolute luxury, quality and opulence of a true South African 5-star experience. The Lap of Luxury Pavilion promises to engage visitors’ senses in the luxurious hospitality, warmth and uniqueness of five-star products and Lilizela Award-winning properties in an elegant atmosphere.

The excursion into opulence begins at the entrance of the pavilion with a concierge desk providing full reception services. Butler services will be available to visitors as they meet, make contact and view exhibitor content displayed on large HD touchscreens in the media area. And, of course superb cuisine will be prepared by some of South Africa’s top chefs.

Sho’t Left Travel Week 2019

South African Tourism’s highly successful domestic campaign, Sho’t Left Travel Week, will be launched at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2019 for the very first time, encouraging potential travel trade partners to register to participate in this year’s Travel Week between 23rd and 29th September 2019.

Travel Week is one of the most significant tourism marketing opportunities in the country and its launch will form part of the South African Tourism stand at Africa’s Travel Indaba.

Travel Week is a first of a kind initiative for South Africans. The campaign aims to get local travellers excited about exploring their own country.

During Travel Week, South African Tourism partners with provincial tourism authorities and relevant tourism businesses to provide special offers for local travellers in a bid to get them excited about exploring their own country.

Wall Mural

South African Tourism has partnered with three acclaimed Durban artists to paint a 22-metre wall mural inside the DICC that will be unveiled during Africa’s Travel Indaba taking place on the 2nd – 4th May 2019.

This is part of a legacy project that SA Tourism would like to showcase as the hosts of Africa’s Travel Indaba.

“We know that travellers from all over the world are keen to learn about the history and culture of any destination they visit. This wall mural is the creative expression of our culture and beautiful landscapes. It is also a celebration of South Africa’s talent”, says Sthembiso Dlamini, Acting Chief Executive Officer at South African Tourism.

The wall mural is a representation of KwaZulu-Natal’s lifestyle, showcasing the culture in the region, from the world famous beaches to landmarks such as the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Apart from tourism, Africa’s Travel Indaba is one of the biggest events on the media calendar. It attracted more than 600 media last year and is expected to topple that number this year.

With so much happening at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2019, make your way to the Durban ICC and find out how Africa’s tourism industry is soaring to new heights.
