TThe Pretoria Art Museum focuses on showcasing exceptional local art. Its permanent collection includes works by South African artists, such as Gerard Sekoto, Pieter Wenning, Henk Pierneef, Frans Oerder and Anton van Wouw.

This art gallery's permanent collection also features the work of international artists, including Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Käthe Kollwitz and Salvador Dali.

The Pretoria Art Museum was initially established to house the City Council's growing art collection. In the early 1960s, the museum was built in the modern International Style. From the very beginning, it was decided that the museum would focus on South African art. It now houses local paintings, sculptures, tapestries, prints, photographs, woodcuts, linocuts and ceramics.

Walk around this architectural gem and take in the township scenes of Gerard Sekoto; the expressionist masterpieces of Maggie Laubser; historical paintings of early Pretoria; and one of the biggest collections of Henk Pierneef’s work in existence. Spend some time in the museum’s information centre, where you can browse art books and old newspaper clippings.
