After you've taken the cableway to the top of Table Mountain, take a trip to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years of incarceration. Or relax on one of Cape Town’s Blue Flag beaches before heading off on a Cape winelands tour of Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek. Here you can indulge in wine tasting, go on vineyard cycling and horseriding tours, explore markets and enjoy luxury spa treatments.
Later in the day head out to one of Cape Town’s townships for an authentic shebeen experience where you can sample typical African cuisine and get down to the unmistakable sounds of township jazz.
Further afield there are also great opportunities for Western Cape incentives. At the West Coast National Park, you can see thousands of seabirds nesting, while the pristine golden beaches stretch for miles. Here you can enjoy bird watching, game viewing, whale watching (August to November), mountain biking, hiking, kite boarding and kayaking, among other activities.
At Gansbaai in the Overberg region, shark cage diving is a popular activity and further south, along the scenic Garden Route, gourmet safaris are a great option. Here you’ll also find luxury golf estates with championship golf courses designed by some of the world’s best golfers.
In the fascinating town of Oudtshoorn (in the middle of ostrich country), you’ll find the Cango Caves with its incredible displays of stalagmites and stalactites. Or, if you want to walk in the footsteps of the early San, make your way to the rugged Cederberg mountains where time has stood still for centuries.
Of course, you can also just choose to hang around fabulous Cape Town with its wonderful galleries, museums, restaurants and attractions. If shopping is your thing, then a trip to the V&A Waterfront is an absolute must, while Long Street is great for window shopping in the day and partying at night.
