In recent years, the global meetings industry has begun to recognise Africa as a sought after destination. Meetings Africa showcases Africa’s diverse offering of services and products where African associations and African meetings industry professionals can partner to help transform our continent. In the last five years (between 2013 and 2017) Meetings Africa has hosted over 1000 international and regional buyers, 1336 exhibitors and over 7000 visitors. Meetings Africa 2020 will take place from 24-26 February 2020, with BONDay on the 24th.

New Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal officially inaugurated in Durban by President Ramaphosa
The R 330 million Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal in South Africa’s main port of Durban today was officially inaugurated by President Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of the start of South Africa’s 2023-24 cruise season. The building was devised and funded by MSC Cruises and its black economic empowerment partner African Armada Consortium and together with Transnet National Ports Authority created the first public-private partnership in South Africa’s cruise industry.  The venture called KwaZulu Cruise Terminal Limited operates the new facility.

South African Tourism invites travellers from North Europe to Live South Africa! in new campaign.
Travellers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden place high priority on sustainability and responsible tourism, and South African Tourism North Europe Hub have launched a Live South Africa! campaign, focused on inviting travellers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden to recognize that coming to South Africa is a responsible tourism behaviour in itself. The Netherlands, as the biggest market out of this hub and the fourth largest market out of Europe, recorded 54 083 arrivals in the period of January to June 2023. This number is significant as it places the Netherlands at 93% towards the 2019 arrivals numbers by comparison to the same period. Other markets within this hub are Belgium and Sweden, recording 19 087 and 12 660 arrivals for January to June 2023 respectively.

In an assertive and strategic effort to further boost the tourism sector, South Africa has sent a formidable delegation to the World Travel Market (WTM) taking place from 6th to 8th November 2023 in London. Led by the Minister of Tourism, Honourable Patricia De Lille, the South African contingent to the global trade show comprises of 27 South African exhibitors, showcasing a mix of the country's diverse tourism products and experiences. The delegation, including provincial tourism authorities, destination management companies, tour operators, airlines and accommodation groups and establishments aims to leverage the event to further bolster the country’s tourism recovery.

Johannesburg 31 October 2023 — South African Tourism congratulates the South Africa national rugby team, The Springboks, for securing their fourth Rugby World Cup victory after defeating the New Zealand All Blacks in a resounding final. This achievement cements South Africa's place in rugby history as the first country to win the prestigious tournament four times. The final, which took place in Paris, France on the 28th of October 2023, will be remembered as an extraordinary display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, as the Springboks outperformed their rivals with a tight final score of 12 – 11. This victory is a testament to the incredible talent of these athletes.

Following the Springboks' victory at the Rugby World Cup in France, South Africa is buzzing with such pride, hope and unity.
