#G20TourismHackathon - The picturesque hills of the Sabie River valley in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province provided a tranquil haven for a group of aspiring young innovators who took on a challenge to reimagine the future of tourism through a digital lens.

As part of South African Tourism’s effort to understand shifts in the Indian market, the Analytics and Insights Unit has found that the reason for the trip and who you take along significantly influences where you go, how you plan, and what kind of experiences you seek. From family holidays to friend getaways, Indian travellers demonstrate remarkable adaptability in their approach to travel planning and preferences.

Following a rigorous and competitive procurement process led by South African Tourism, Johannesburg and Durban have officially been confirmed as the host cities for Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba respectively for the next five years commencing 2026.

The SA Chef Conference & Expo 2025, held on 11–12 August at The Capital Empire in Sandton, Johannesburg, brought together over 220 chefs, tourism leaders, culinary entrepreneurs and gastronomy thinkers. Hosted by SA Chef Media and Paragon Africa, and headlined by Unilever Food Solutions, the event didn’t just showcase South Africa’s culinary potential – it charted a roadmap for how gastronomy can power tourism growth.

As part of the SA Chef Conference & Expo 2025 held in Sandton last week, SA Chef Media in partnership with the Wakanda Food Accelerator hosted a high-impact masterclass in Alexandra, Johannesburg, with support from South African Tourism (SA Tourism) and the South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB). The initiative aimed to spotlight township gastronomy and unlock economic opportunities in VTSD communities - Villages, Townships, and Small Dorpies - with Alexandra positioned as a vibrant, emerging culinary hub.

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) proudly marks its 25th anniversary at the 2025 Annual Assessor Conference, convening accredited assessors from across the country to uphold and enhance South Africa’s global standards in tourism quality assurance.
