JJanuary is a month known for new beginnings, New Year’s resolutions and also a time where everyone is still feeling the holiday vibes. Green Point Urban Park, Cape Town

A free alternative to the well-known Kirstenbosch Gardens, the Green Point Urban Park also boasts an array of beautiful plant species, an impressive landscape consisting of lush lawns perfect for family picnics, or a romantic setting for two. Make a point of visiting the biodiversity garden that’s home to over 300 different types of plant life.

KKitchener’s Carvery Bar, Johannesburg

Settle in for a night of giggles on Tuesday’s at Kitchener’s Carvery Bar situated in the heart of Jozi, near Neighbourgoods Market. It’s called the Kitchener’s Comedy Night, and with an entrance fee of only R20 you definitely won’t feel a hole in your pocket. Up and coming comedians will have you in stitches with their hilarious new material.

AAfronova Art Gallery, Johannesburg

Make your way down to the Newtown Precinct in the City of Gold and be in awe of the fascinating and inspiring artwork that’s on display at the Afronova Art Gallery. Expect contemporary work from artists like Billie Zangewa, Jodi Bieber, and John Liebenberg. There’s a bookshop on site too that offers an array of publications on African art. Entrance is free.

GGiba Gorge Mountain Bike Park, Durban

For just R40 per adult and R20 per child under R12, everyone can experience the thrill of the outdoors when mountain biking at Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park. There’s also an option to go horse riding for those less adventurous and feel for a more relaxed activity. 

AAddo Elephant National Park, Port Elizabeth

Known as possibly the best elephant viewing spot in the country, the Addo Elephant National Park is the perfect day outing for the whole family that won’t break the bank. The kids will absolutely love witnessing one of Africa’s Big Five graze and huddle at the watering hole. Entry is approximately R68 per adult and R34 per child for the day.
