Overview
OOne of Northern Cape’s hidden gems! Nestled amongst majestic mountains… Doornkloof Nature Reserve is known to be the ideal place to disconnect from the outside and reconnect with that which matters most. The 12000 hectare reserve is unique not only in the sense that there are minimal signs of disturbance, but also proves to be a nature lover’s paradise. With upto 420 plant species, 48 mammal species, 8 amphibians and 172 bird species recorded at the reserve. Doornkloof Nature Reserve was proclaimed in 1981 to conserve its biodiversity and ecological processes with particular emphasis on the Seekoei River, the river is the largest tributary into the Vanderkloof Dam.  The rich history of this reserve dates back to the time of the Anglo Boer War and remnants of the war together with historical rock engravings, can be seen here!
