This 4 star graded camp with 5 soon to be 6 luxury suites; situated on Shikwari Game Reserve. The main area has a tranquil plunge pool and shady veranda. A quiet lounge and diningroom as well as a fully licensed bar. While away the hours here with a book from the selection in the library, play card or chess or simply enjoy the sun around the pool.
Spend the day out; book for the Blyde Boat Cruise on the Swadini Dam, take a full day tour with our resident FGASA Guide to "The Panorama" The upper part of the Blyde River Canyon the first greenest and third largest in the world. Also book for the most amazing guided open vehicle full day Guided Kruger Park Trip to see the Big 5 with a Bush Breakfast and lunch with our resident FGASA Guide. Visit Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre to hear the talk about their endeavors to save wildlife and the guided walk to see the animals,on the way back visit the world famous Jessica Hippo and feed her rooibos tea and sweet potatoes. Lunch at one of the many great restaurants in the area
The lodge commands wonderful vistas of the Skilderkrans Mountain, part of the Northern Drakensburg Mountains & home to the Manoutsa Vulture Colony of Cape Vulture. This is the fourth largest colony in the world. The Shikwari Reserve offers a safe home to many plains game such a Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Nyala Impala and Ostrich. We are also great for twitchers as the bird life especially in summer is amazing. Book a nature walk or game drive around our reserve with our Guide, You may even be lucky enough to have an interaction with our Zebra "Little Boy" saved by the owners from starvation after being kicked out of the heard in winter and kept from our feeding program.
Half day Spa Treatments with lunch can also be arranged at a nearby spa for singles or couples.
At the end of a wonderful days touring, watch the sunset turn the Skilderkraans Mountain into a rainbow of colour and kick back while having sundowners. Meet for a pre-dinner drink and chat at our convivial Warthog Bar with other guests, before sitting down together to a delicious 3 course set menu dinner either plated or served buffet style on our veranda or on the exciting deck boma around the fire for a great South African Braai and some bush stories. This brings one close to the sounds of the night and is an opportunity to see the wonderful night sky and stars.
Our Country Chic cuisine at Shikwari has a distinctive South African flavor along with a touch of French , Indian and Italian flair. Favourite South African favourites such as Bobotie, Durban Curries, Karoo Lamb, Malva Pudding, Koeksusters and Cape Brandy Tart are just some of the local treats. This along with the Chefs English heritage of homemade scones, pastries, and Yorkshire pudding. Italian Homemade pastas and French classics such as Cheese souffles, Homemade Icecream, Chocolate Fondant, Coq au Vin Blanc and many more delicious options.
Retire when the day is done to our five luxurious suites,private and secluded amongst the bush soon to be 6 in 2018, . Each suite is beautifully decorated and well appointed with a hospitality tray with a supply of freshly ground coffee, coffee plunger, Teas & Homemade cookies. There also is a mini bar stocked on request to our guests requirements.
The en-suite bathrooms have large oval baths, basin and toilet and all the suites have outdoor showers. the Honeymoon Suite has a romantic canopy and an extra indoor shower over the bath. Fluffy Egyptian cotton towels, Bathrobes and Slipper are supplied and a range of specially chosen natural toiletries is always available. All our beds are dressed with fine percale linen and all rooms have air conditioners and ceiling fans.
