WWhether you are a tourist passing through the historic town of Cradock, or on business needing quality overnight accommodation, Albert House B&B is the answer. Set in spacious gardens with plenty of shade provided by fruit and other trees, the establishment lies in a tranquil area, yet conveniently close to shops and historical sites. We have 6 en suite rooms, 5 with entrances from the garden. All rooms have DSTV and air conditioning. Secure off-road parking is available for all guests. We provide superb breakfasts, and dinners can be arranged on request. Guests who want to enjoy a meal al fresco are welcome to use the convenient barbeque facilities set beneath the canopy of a sprawling pear tree in the garden. The Albert Guest House is a quality B&B set in neat, sprawling gardens in a tranquil residential area in the town of Cradock, yet it is only a minute’s drive from the town centre and a popular shopping mall. The original Albert House building was completed in 1843, and one can appreciate the typical Victorian features and décor while still enjoying the convenience of all the modern facilities expected by our guests. We especially pride ourselves on our bedding, and our quality beds, mattresses and pillows are complemented by only the very best in authentic Percale linen. Uncompromising luxury for sleep aficionados! To make your stay really comfortable in the harsh Karoo winters, apart from air conditioning, electric blankets are also provided. We offer • Free Broadband Internet connection • Use of barbeque facilities (please supply your own wood!) • Secure parking is provided on the premises When Albert House was built in 1843 on its large 4000 square metre plot, a garden was laid out in typical Victorian fashion with lots of heritage roses and trees planted, some of them still flourishing to this day! The size of the Albert House trees tell a story of their own, and one of the most prominent is a wild olive planted the same year the house was built, making it over 160 years old! The two pear trees are over 120 years old, yet still produce fruit every year! A few hundred metres down the road from Albert House is the largest Ilex Oak in the Southern Hemisphere, which has often been mentioned in botanical literature. Besides creating welcome shade and enhancing the appearance of the garden, the productive fruit trees are harvested regularly and jams and preservatives are made in the very kitchen at Albert House. So remember, when you tuck into your scrumptious breakfast in the morning, those tasty jams come from the trees just outside the dining room window! The extensive gardens, lawns and trees tend to draw one outside the rooms, and we have noted how many guests enjoy sitting outside in this botanical splendour rather than in their rooms! Who are our typical guests? Most of our guests, 80% are South African businessmen and businesswomen and 20% tourists or leisure travellers, and notably tourists from up to eighteen different countries. This comes as no surprise as the Mountain Zebra National Park has always been a major attraction for foreign tourists, and is indeed one of the best managed National Parks in the country with almost guaranteed game sighting! For people on business trips we provide an efficient and comfortable service, this having been proved by the large contingent that consistently return to Albert House to enjoy the relaxing, yet businesslike facilities and atmosphere!
