The FIP world congress is the largest global gathering of pharmacy professionals.

The congress will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 25 to 29 September 2022 with around 2000 delegates expected to attend.

Mr Dominique Jordan, FIP President said that FIP is proud to be hosting the 2022 world congress in Cape Town.

“This will be only the second time in FIP’s 110-year history that we will gather pharmacy professionals from all over the world on the African continent. We’re looking forward to working with our South African colleagues to make our 82nd annual congress a huge success, and to provide an environment for our profession to share innovations, developments and experiences,” said Jordan.

“I know that pharmacists in Africa have a lot to share and hope, in particular, that they take the opportunity of the FIP congress being in their region to attend and network internationally. It is only together, that we will be able to advance our profession and to contribute valuably to the goal of universal health coverage,” he added.

The congress will provide pharmacists and other healthcare professionals from the world and the continent a platform to share best practices and showcase global innovation in pharmacy. It also provides an opportunity to share new research, whilst making it possible for South African professionals to enter into collaborations with international delegates.

South Africa’s Minster of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize said the country and the health sector is overjoyed at the opportunity to host this prestigious congress.

“Hosting the FIP world congress is a huge boost to the body of knowledge which is necessary to tackle some of the healthcare challenges which are currently facing the sector,” said Dr Mkhize.

Ivan Kotzé, Executive Director of the PSSA echoed Minister Mkhize’s sentiments saying that hosting the FIP world congress in Cape Town will be a huge win for the pharmacy profession in the country and the region.

“Hosting the FIP world congress in Cape Town, South Africa, will provide an opportunity for pharmacists from South Africa, the region and the African continent an opportunity to experience a premiere international pharmacy conference, where they can be exposed to the latest developments in their profession. This is also an opportunity for all pharmacists attending to benchmark own practice standards and innovation with those of other pharmacists from all over the globe,” said Kotzé.

Ms Amanda Kotze-Nhlapo, Chief Convention Bureau Officer of the SANCB said winning the bid to host the congress is a major achievement for the country and will be beneficial in advancing pharmacists and healthcare professionals on the continent.

“This congress will go a long way in showcasing what South Africa has to offer as a business events destination. While leisure is an important component of the tourism mix, business events has potential to make an even greater contribution to economic development, which is why the SANCB is particularly proud of this achievement,” said Kotze-Nhlapho.
