SSouth African Tourism CEO, Sisa Ntshona, has congratulated the organisation’s Chief Convention Officer, Amanda Kotze-Nhlapo, for receiving a prestigious lifetime achievement award.

Kotze-Nhlapo received the Top 40 Women in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Exhibitions) Lifetime achievement award which recognizes the excellent contribution made by women in the MICE Industry.

“It’s a proud moment when we have one of our own recognised by the industry for her significant contributions to the development and promotion of tourism in our country,” says Sisa Ntshona, CEO of SA Tourism.

“Not only has Amanda achieved much success in her area of expertise, but her leadership is also a true reflection of her character, values, collaborative spirit and passion to an ever-evolving sector,” added Ntshona.

Kotze-Nhlapo, a previous winner in the Top 40 Women in MICE awards, was delighted by her achievement.

“It is a privilege and honour to be recognised by my peers. Having been in the industry of promoting business tourism for the past 20-years, I have witnessed, first hand, the evolution of the sector,” commented Kotze-Nhlapo.

“The business events industry is a great driver of tourism and therefore economic development and employment. This award is testament to my passion for this industry. To be acknowledged for the work that I love and to be supported equally by my team is a true privilege,” she concluded.

South Africa hosts about one million delegates at business events every year, supporting more than 250 000 jobs directly and indirectly in this sub-sector alone. The business events sector contributed R115 billion to the South African economy, with the overall travel and tourism industry’s contribution amounting to R412.2 billion in 2017.

Apart from a distinguished career in the industry, Kotze-Nhlapo is also an ICCA (International Conference and Convention Association) board member, representing the Africa region.
