1Soccer
Gauteng is a soccer-mad province, and if we’re not out on the fields of our townships and suburbs playing the game – then we’re dressing up in the colours of our favourite teams and heading off to our stadiums to egg on our heroes.
2Rugby
Rugby is definitely what makes our nation tick, and the sport is hugely popular across the province of Gauteng. Our favourite stadium for this spectator sport is Loftus Versveld in Tshwane (home to the Blue Bulls), although on any given afternoon you’ll see old and young playing rugger on our playing fields.
3Cricket at The Wanderers
Another favourite spectator sport is watching cricket at The Wanderers in the leafy suburb of Illovo. However, sports like action cricket are also fun for those who don’t take the sport to seriously...
4Golf
Gauteng province offers the golfing enthusiast a wide selection of world-class golf courses. Within just one hour drive from the Sandton CBD you will find 36 of the top 100 golf courses in South Africa.
5Running
There are running clubs everywhere in Gauteng. For some reason us Gautengers love to pound the pavements of Jozi and Tshwane. There are also regular running race days on the province’s annual calender
6Walking
We love walking around our cities and parks and there are lots of places where one can walk in Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas. Enjoy strolling around Zoo Lake, Emmarentia Dam or the Oliver Tambo Botanical Gardens.
7Mountain Biking in Gauteng
It might be home to the buzzy city life of Johannesburg and Tswhane, but us Gautengers love nothing more than heading off to the green areas on our mountain bikes – you’ll be surprised at how many rugged areas there are to enjoy your favourite sport.
8Fishing in Dinokeng
There are great opportunities for fishing in the Dinokeng tourism region (just outside of Pretoria and Johannesburg). The area is not called ‘A place of rivers’ for nothing – this is where you can fly fish for carp or rainbow trout
9Water Skiing on the Vaal Dam
Head to the Vaal Dam and enjoy water skiing to your hearts content. There is a wide variety of additional watersports on offer, so get wet in style!
10Health Clubs
If you want an indoor fully equipped gym with all the amenities head to a Virgin Active or the Planet Fitness outlets – they offer all the latest in health and fitness equipments as well as regular aerobics, pilates and yoga classes
