There’s nothing like barrelling along next to the Lebombo mountains, on a double-lane highway bound for peri-peri prawns in Mozambique's coastal Maputo.
5Robber’s Pass, Pilgrim’s Rest
One of the most dramatic mountain passes, famed for its scenery and highway robberies of yore
From the highveld, the Schoemanskloof drops down the escarpment, following the course of the Crocodile River as it runs down the mountain into the valley.
Watch out for wild horses, sudden mists and ghosts from the gold rush days, as you climb the heights into this historic mountain village.
8Machadadorp to Ermelo
A must in March/ April when the cosmos that grows alongside the roads bursts into swathes of pink and white flowers.
9Sabie to White River
A winding drive through pine plantations, citrus orchards, roadside stalls, settlements and arts & crafts spots.
10Barberton to Malelane
A lone track leads through old gold rush country, following the foothills of the lovely Lebombo mountains.
