1Johannesburg/Pretoria to Cradle of Humankind
Head off down the track towards the Cradle of Humankind – where you’ll find ancient caves, famous fossils and exhibits that focus on man’s origins.

3Johannesburg/Pretoria to the Dinokeng Conservancy
A wonderful tourist route that incorporates the town of Cullinan, the Nan Hua Buddhist temple in Bronkhorstspruit, township tours, game lodges, a rose farm and a number of excellent spas.
4Johannesburg to Parys, Free State
Only an hour’s drive brings you to a small town on the Vaal River that is rich in art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, river rafting, country inns, spice shops and delis.
5Johannesburg to Ficksburg, Free State
Magical sandstone Free State landscapes, farm stalls, pink and white cosmos and homegrown hospitality en route.
6Golden Gate National Park and Clarens
Just three hours from Jozi, this area is famous for its sandstone cliffs, caves and churches and Clarens is home to artists, crafts people, gift shops and restaurants.
7Johannesburg/Pretoria to Dullstroom
A favourite weekend excursion as it takes only three hours to get to this town that is all shops, eateries, country inns and galleries; there’s even a pub in a barn – beware!
8The Vaal Meander
A fun route that goes passed a variety of historic sites, and heads towards the Riviera Vaal Country Club and the Emerald Casino. Great place for watersports.
Leave Johannesburg or Pretoria and head for the Harbeespoort Dam. Enjoy a great day out and don’t forget to stop at the curio sellers and art galleries en route.
10Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, south-east of Johannesburg
With 60kms of tar roads within this 13 000 hectare nature reserve, including a two-hour circular drive, it’s worth visiting for its cheetah population and exquisite birdlife.
