Jacana Travel Marketing and Reservations CC
Jacana was started by Sarie Mehl in 1990 as an instrument to market, farm stay accommodation and private hiking trails. The first cottages and trails where based in the Free State and KwaZulu Natal. Sarie, in fact, can be credited with the introduction and development of eco tourism as we know it today. Numerous guesthouses and weekend trails sprang up as farmers and landowners realised the value and potential of having tourists on their land. Today the Farm Stay and eco tourism market has grown into a multi million rand industry. In 2007, Tim Hartwright purchased the business of Jacana from Sarie and through aggressive marketing has seen the business grow from strength to strength and has now become the largest agency of its kind in Southern Africa. Strategic partnerships have been formed with national organisations such as South African Forestry Company through their subsidiaries, Komatiland Forestry and Mountain to Ocean, South African National Parks, Golden Leopard Resorts, Transfrontier Parks, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, De Beers and also Cape Nature. Our products includes, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, canoeing, quad biking, abseiling, rock climbing, river rafting and 4x4 trails. Our goal is to offer the domestic and overseas market a ‘One stop shop’ for eco tourism reservations, and to achieve this we have identified and embarked on a course of strategic measures to facilitate this growth. We are expanding our product list to Conference Facilities and Wedding Venues as well.
