Thaba Thabo Nature Reserve

The spectacular 1415 hectares Thaba Thabo Game & Nature Reserve is situated in the Witteberg mountain range close to Ficksburg and the Lesotho border in the Eastern Free State. The reserve consists of three game farms, Afton, Gilboa and Thaba Thabo. Collectively they are known as Thaba Thabo which means Mountain of Happiness. The reserve is renowned for its scenic setting. Thaba Thabo is 30 km from Ficksburg, 220 km from Bloemfontein, 330 km from Johannesburg and 480 km from Durban by road. The last 10 km are on tertiary dirt road and depending on the weather can be rough or muddy. This part of the road can be negotiated by cars provided they are driven slowly. Minibuses or bakkies are ideal.
