Voortrekker Monument & Nature Reserve

The Voortrekker Monument was built to commemorate the group of pioneers who ventured into the interior of South Africa from 1834 – 1854. There are several places of interest on the site: the Heritage Foundation, Fort Schanskop and the SADF Wall of Remembrance. The Voortrekker Monument is the first Afrikaans monument to be declared a Grade 1 National Heritage Site since 1994. It received this honour in July 2011. The site also has facilities for hikers, mountain bike trails, horse riding and a picnic area. There is a chapel and several halls for hire on the site.
