The Hooting Owl

Located in Marina Beach, on the “Golf Coast”, approximately an hour's drive south from Durban International Airport, The Hooting Owl offers a unique ” Bushveld Lodge” feel in a coastal environment. The main house nestles on a slope overlooking a sub-tropical forest with valley views and prolific bird life. We offer privacy, peace and tranquillity for that intimate weekend getaway or an extended break to unwind from the “Rat Race”. The Guesthouse has three queen rooms under thatch, sleeping two people each. Each room has an en-suite rock effect shower, rock effect basin and a toilet. Tea/coffee making facilities, cooling fan and a hair dryer are supplied. The rooms are located on a separate wing with their own entrance, overlooking the pool. The 100% percale linen, goose down pillows and duvets are of excellent quality to European standards. The linen and bedding is standard throughout the guesthouse. The communal area of the main house has a very comfortable guest TV lounge overlooking the pool area with full bouquet DSTV. Breakfast is served daily in the dinning room: Booking is essential. Wooden decks overlooking the forest surround the extra large, clothing optional, pool area. The pool is heated to 28 degrees C. in winter. A change room, toilet and two showers are located next to the pool and all weather braai area. The Honeymoon Suite has its own entrance, via a private patio, ideal for a sundowner or braai. The suite has rustic features in a modern style with a queen size bed, en-suite glass shower, modern basin and toilet. A small fitted kitchen, with stove, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and all utensils and crockery. There is a small dining nook and TV area with SABC channels and a DSTV Decoder. Guests must supply their own decoder “smart card” to activate DSTV. This unit is ideal for a private romantic get-away with your soul mate. This unit is also suitable for a family with toddlers who can use a camping cot (supplied) or a single bed can be added. The Guest Cottage is double storey, accommodating up to a MAXIMUM OF EIGHT people - including children. On the ground floor the master bedroom with queen-size bed and en-suite bathroom boasts an outside shower area in a secluded garden. The second bedroom also with a queen-sized bed is next to the second shower room. An open-plan kitchen/dining/TV lounge area completes the downstairs floor plan. The TV has SABC channels and a DSTV Decoder. Guests must supply their own decoder “smart card” to activate DSTV. The kitchen is fully fitted with stove, oven, washer/dryer/dishwasher, microwave, toaster and coffee machine. The unit has utensils and crockery for eight people. Upstairs, there is a very spacious family room with four three-quarter sized single beds. There is plenty of safe parking inside the premises. Guests will receive a remote for easy access through the electric security gate during their stay. All guest areas are covered by an in-house alarm system linked to Chubb Armed Response. Eleven golf courses, including Selborne, Southbroom, San Lameer and The Wild Coast are within a forty-five minute drive from the guesthouse, making us ideally situated as a home base for the ardent golf enthusiast. With five blue flag beaches to choose from, horse riding, quad biking, bird watching, game drives, adventure tours, cultural tours, fishing, whale watching, diving, fine dining, spa treatments, shopping, etc, there is plenty to do when the weather turns bad.
