Cape Town's rooftop bars create a buzz

Cape Town’s rooftop bars are getting international attention.

Vista Bar at One&Only, Cape Town

The Vista Bar & Lounge is in the centre of One&Only Cape Town’s lobby. As its name suggests, incredible panoramic views of Table Mountain are enjoyed through a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass. Here, guests may gather to enjoy all-day dining, a spectacular afternoon tea and evenings filled with music and an electric vibe. - One&Only Cape Town marketing executive, Simone Garner

The Mother City is generally known for its beautiful wines, fabulous food and gorgeous scenery. Now it’s Cape Town’s rooftop bars that are in the international spotlight.

In June, Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar in Longmarket Street was voted 4th on the Conde Nast Traveller’s list of ‘Best New Bars in 20 Cities' - finding its place amongst the funkiest, hippest bars on the planet.

Tjing Tjing is located in a heritage building. As the name suggests it has an Asian theme that is reflected in fun cocktails such as the Ginger Ninja, Cherry Blossom and Asian Persuasion. The bar is in the heart of Cape Town’s nightlife scene and there is also a well thought out pub menu for those in need of some sustenance.

Earlier this month, The Vista Bar at One&Only Cape Town was included on CNN Go’s online portal as one of the top '50 stunning rooftop bars and restaurants' in the world.

One&Only Cape Town marketing executive, Simone Garner, says the Vista Bar is unique in many ways. ‘It's situated in the centre of One&Only Cape Town’s lobby. As its name suggests, incredible panoramic views of Table Mountain are enjoyed through a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass. Here, guests may gather to enjoy all-day dining, a spectacular afternoon tea and evenings filled with music and an electric vibe,’ she says.

The Vista Bar’s wine list is pretty extensive. It includes a wide selection of Cape wines and cocktails that are both cheeky and enticing.

The One&Only was itself recently voted as one of the world’s top hotels, and the Top City Hotel in Africa & The Middle East in the recent Travel + Leisure magazine readers poll, compiled by US travellers.
