South Africa scores with TripAdvisor travellers

The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards have been announced, with South African hotels holding their own among the best in the world.

Cape Grace The award-winning Cape Grace

The Cape Grace has always been an exemplary hotel and a benchmark for the best in Cape Town hospitality. We are so pleased that it has been recognised in such an authoritative way. – Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism.

South African hotels have fared extremely well in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for 2013, with the Cape Grace taking 2nd place in the Top 25 Hotels in the World category. Situated on the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Grace was beaten only by the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Hawaii.

Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, was thrilled with the announcement. ‘The Cape Grace has always been an exemplary hotel and a benchmark for the best in Cape Town hospitality. We are so pleased that it has been recognised in such an authoritative way,’ she said.

On the TripAdvisor list for the Top 25 Hotels in Africa, the Cape Grace was rated number 1, with the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, also in Cape Town, claiming 14th spot. Cape Town's Mount Nelson Hotel placed 18th, The Oyster Box in Umhlanga 19th, the One&Only Cape Town 21st, Kapama River Lodge in Limpopo 22nd, and the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town 23rd.

In the Top 25 Hotels in South Africa category, there is an impressive list of luxury hotels, with, again, the Cape Grace taking 1st place.

In the Top 25 Small Hotels in the World category, 3rd place went to Blackheath Lodge in Cape Town, 5th place to Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and Guest House in Franschhoek, and 13th place to Derwent House, also Cape Town. In the B&Bs and Inns category, Cube Guest House in Hout Bay took 11th place, with Boutique Manolo in Cape Town placing 20th.

One thing is for sure  – TripAdvisor users love South Africa, and Cape Town in particular.
