The Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Menlyn is currently under construction - the hotel will be a welcome addition to accommodation options in the administrative capital of South Africa, Pretoria.

The new hotel is the flagship property in the trendy Summit Place lifestyle development and is set to open in the first quarter of 2014. Summit Place is situated just across the way from Menlyn Park Mall, a popular restaurant and shopping district.

Protea Hospitality Group CEO, Arthur Gillis, is excited about the hotel and the pace of the building construction and says that the architectural design offers a new take on outdoor/indoor urban luxury.

He says,  ‘All the entertainment areas are on one level, so the vibe and energy of the experience will be felt from check-in till check-out.'

Once complete, the hotel will consist of 178 rooms (including 10 suites and 40 inter-leading rooms), a conference centre, bar and restaurant, public areas to relax and socialise and 220 underground parking bays.

Gillis says the pool is the piece de resistance of the cutting-edge urban design of the hotel. 'The pool deck is the main focal point. It will contain private pods with fireplaces ideal for socialising, meeting and entertaining,' he says.

Another key aspect of the hotel is the well-equipped conference centre that will be available for meetings, conferences, training, launches and events. Gillis says, 'The conference centre is an incredible space. It’ll be a double-storey facility that comprises two large multi-use conference venues accommodating up to 450 delegates. The ground floor will have a ramp to allow for easy access for product and vehicle launches and there are also four board or meeting rooms ideal for strategic meetings, board meetings or breakaway rooms.'

The hotel is aimed at the business traveller who is looking for an edgy sense of style and who wants to be in the heart of this vibrant lifestyle and entertainment district.
