South Africa shines in Condé Nast Traveler awards

The 25th annual Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards have been announced, and South African properties have done themselves proud.

Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa

We are very proud of this acknowledgement and would like to thank the readers of Condé Nast Traveler for their continued support of our beautiful hotel and spa which offers a nurturing, soothing haven to all who come here. - Horst Frehse, General Manager of The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.

The prestigious publication Condé Nast Traveler has just released the results of its 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards, and South Africa has much to boast about.

Among the World’s 10 Top Cities, Cape Town features 2nd, runner-up to the American city of Charleston, yet ahead of the Italian city of Florence. It stands to reason then, that Cape Town also takes the top slot in the Top 5 Cities in Africa poll, with Knysna on its tail in 2nd place.

Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve has taken 6th position in the Top 10 Hotels and Resorts in the World, with a score of 98.3. South African game lodges feature prominently in the Top 100 in this category, with Singita Kruger National Park at 14th post, Singita Sabi Sand at 32nd, Lion Sands and Londolozi in the Sabi Sands sharing 37th and Mala Mala at 70th.

Two Cape Town hotels are also listed here, The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa at 47th and the Steenberg Hotel in Constantia at 94th. The Steenberg Hotel also topped the Readers' Choice for Top 20 Foreign Golf Resorts.

In the Top 15 Hotels in Africa list, South African properties dominate. They are the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa (1st), the Cape Grace (2nd), The Table Bay Hotel (4th), the Victoria and Alfred Hotel (5th) and the Mount Nelson (8th), all in Cape Town, as well as Johannesburg’s Saxon Hotel (6th) and Michelangelo Hotel (13th).

All the exclusive safari lodges mentioned above have a place in the Top 25 Resorts and Safari Camps in Africa poll, with the addition of Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek and The Palace of the Lost City in Sun City.

General manager of The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, Horst Frehse, says, 'We are very proud of this acknowledgement and would like to thank the readers of Condé Nast Traveler for their continued support of our beautiful hotel and spa which offers a nurturing, soothing haven to all who come here.'

This year’s  survey reflects the combined opinions of 46,476 Condé Nast Traveler readers rating the places and hotels they visited in the past year.
